An heirloom tomato is generally considered to be a variety that has been passed down, through several generations of a family, usually for 50 or more years, because of it’s valued characteristics and can be found in a wide variety of colors, shapes, flavors and sizes.
Heirloom tomatoes are not only flavorful, juicy, and rich, they are also high in a wide range of nutrients, packed full of vitamins (including vitamin A, vitamin C), and antioxidants like lycopene (one of the most potent antioxidants). They provide a great source of fiber, and are naturally low in calories.
